The Holznerwirt is the perfect starting point for numerous biking and cycling tours through the hilly Salzburg countryside and the Salzkammergut Lake District. An excellent network of cycling trails means that you can put together your very own cycling or biking itinerary from the 1,000km (!) of marked cycling routes in the region.

From novice to biking fanatics, there’s something to suit every level. Here we can show you examples of some of the most beautiful tours available. Further information, maps and detailed route descriptions are available at the hotel reception.

Tour – around Lake Fuschl

Not always easy, this tour along the shores of Lake Fuschl will give you excellent views of the lake and the surrounding countryside. The tour starts in Eugendorf and takes you over the Eugendorfer Berg towards the village of Plainfeld. You then continue to the village of Hof. As you leave Hof the country road leads you down through the hamlet of Hundsmark. Continue along the hiking trail to Fuschl. On the other side of the main road you take the steep country road to Perfalleck. You have now completed the most strenuous part of the tour. The route then takes you on a gentle return journey through the hamlet of Tiefbrunnau to Faistenau and then onto Baderluck on the outskirts of Hof. From Hof follow the signs back to Eugendorf.

length: 57 km | biking time: 4:10 hours | trekking bike or bike

Tour –large Lake Wallersee round tour

The large Lake Wallersee round trip is a challenging tour but well sign-posted. Starting in Eugendorf you continue towards the town of Seekirchen. The route then takes you on a few detours via Haging and Unzing to the village of Henndorf. Continue alongside the Kolomannsberg through wonderful meadows and woods to Pfongau. Once you reach Steindorf the tour becomes a bit steeper heading towards Tannenberg. Your efforts are then rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view of the Osterhorn, Tennengebirge, Schafberg, Hoher Göll, Watzmann und Untersberg mountains. From here on the route takes you mainly downhill via Seekirchen back to Eugendorf.

Tour – small  Lake Wallersee round tour

Not quite as challenging as the larger round trip this tour presents the biker with the same fantastic landscapes. Wonderful views of the foothills of the Alps and the beautiful Wallersee Lake can be enjoyed without too much effort. This is a gentle tour for hobby bikers; it is well sign-posted and takes you along the Salt and Lakes route to Seekirchen and then along the Lake Wallersee route. From Neumarkt you continue along the Carl-Zuckmayer Route and the last few kilometres back along the Wallersee Lake route to Eugendorf. This is the ideal tour for families as the route is not only picturesque but there are plenty of opportunities for refreshment stops along the way.

Tour – over the Heuberg peak

A diversified tour with steep climbs to the Dax Lueg restaurant. The tour takes you over gravel trails to the Heuberg peak and downhill on a forest path until you reach the tarmac section down to the village of Schwaighofen. You return to Eugendorf on a more gentle section through Salzburg. At Dax Lueg you can expect a fantastic view of the City of Salzburg, the entire district of Flachgau and, on a good day, visibility as far as southern Bavaria to the Waginger and Chiemsee lakes.

Tour – round the Eugendorfer Berg peak

Starting in Eugendorf the tour first takes you to Kraiwiesen and on to Oberplainfeld on quiet by-roads. From here you descend from the Schwaighofener Berg and that is when the most strenuous part of the tour starts; the climb to Dax Lueg. Once you have reached the restaurant Dax Lueg a refreshment stop here seems almost irresistible. Take a few moments to enjoy the magnificent views of the City of Salzburg and the entire Flachgau district. The route then takes you downhill towards Mayrwies and then along the path of the former Ischl Railway back to Eugendorf.

Continue to the wonderfully secluded Hinterwinkl and on the route around the Gaisberg peak down to Elsbethen. From Elsbethen the route continues along the Salzach River through the Mozart City of Salzburg over the pedestrian & biking bridge or ˜Traklsteg” to the city borough of Itzling. From here you return via the path of the former Ischl Railway to Eugendorf.
